We are interested not solely in institutionalized practices in their idealized sense but in the activities, the doing, that explain their role and impact. In terms of the interest in practice for which we argue, there is an opportunity to go further. Fundamental to bases of competitive advantage as argued by resourcebased theorists is that the resource characteristics (or capabilities) that lead to competitive advantage are those that are valuable, rare and diﬃcult to imitate.
