2. Cut the parts. Cut out all of the parts, using a jigsaw with a thin, fine-tooth blade and a straightedge guide to ensure clean, straight cuts. If you like, you can make any long straight cuts with a circular saw and straightedge guide. To cut the slots in the tabletop, first drill a starter hole with a drill and ⅜" bit (or larger, if necessary), staying inside the marked lines. Insert the jigsaw blade into the hole to begin each cut. 3. Test-fit the first table. Assemble the table as shown in the exploded-view illustration on page 32.

Trace around the cut parts to lay out the pieces for the second table. Cut the parts for the second table, then test-assemble it and make any necessary adjustments, as before. Note: If you’re using ½" plywood, glue the matching parts together face-to-face with all edges perfectly aligned. Clamp the pieces together thoroughly, paying particular attention to the leg tabs, the area around the half-lap notches, and the area around the tabletop slots. After the glue dries, test-fit the table and sand the glued parts so all edges are flush and smooth.
