William A. Albrecht (especially see Soil Fertility & Animal Health: The Albrecht Papers, Vol. II). Dr. Albrecht retired in 1959. I received a certificate as an agronomist from him via his work from the Brookside Farms Laboratory Association, Inc. in 1973. He passed away a year later. Albrecht received his doctorate from the University of Illinois. He originally intended to be a medical doctor, but his studies convinced him he could do more to help people’s health by concentrating on the soils that feed them.

Three good friends were my first clients. I got their farms on a consulting basis because they were pushing me to hurry up and get done, and basically they didn’t have big problems. They just wanted to find out what to do and they were sort of following along as I was learning what to do. Another client signed up a 210-acre farm to sample. He farmed 1,500 acres, but he picked out this one 210-acre irrigated farm. He said the reason he was calling me was that his brother-in-law had good results with our program.

Albrecht, who later provided the technical training in soil fertility required by his present profession. In 1968, Neal and his wife, Linda, moved to Texas. He took a job with a large environmental research project conducted by Ambassador College at Big Sandy. He eventually became assistant to the director. Later, he became business manager, and ultimately agricultural operations manager for the Ambassador College Agriculture Department. While serving in this capacity, he became a certified consultant for Brookside Farms Laboratory of New Knoxville, Ohio.
