Another important date for the history of the profession was the opening of a PR position at Podravka, the biggest food processing company in Croatia, in 1968. After that numerous hotels followed and advertised for PR staff (1973 – Hotel Croatia; 1974 – Hotel InterContinental; 1980 – Hotel Solaris; 1984 – Hotel Belvedere). However, there still appeared to be no need for PR staff in the business sector or the public administration until the 1990s (Tomašević, 2002). The beginnings of the 1990s were a time of turbulent change in this part of the world.
