It appears that we organise memory for individual events (episodic memory) in chronological order, whereas memory for facts (semantic memory) seems to be organised by meaning. An important change in both our thinking and the way in which we use our memory comes with the development of metamemory, that is, the knowledge that we have about our memory processes.
